Judicial Service Commission (JSC) decided today to appoint Abdulla Jameel Moosa, who currently serves as the acting head of the High Court, as its Chief Judge. Additionally, the commission has decided to appoint Abdulla Nasheed as the Chief Judge of the Family Court.
By the time the application deadline set by the JSC expired, three candidates had applied for the position of Chief Judge of the High Court: Judge Jameel, Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, and Judge Mohamed Shaneez Abdulla.
From among them, JSC decided to appoint Jameel to the post.
The position of Chief Judge of the High Court became vacant following the appointment of the previous incumbent, Judge Hussain Shaheed, to the Supreme Court.
Jameel has served in the judiciary for over 16 years. His career includes serving as a Magistrate in L. Dhanbidhoo and as a Judge at the Civil Court. Jameel was appointed as a High Court Judge on August 3, 2025.
The position of Chief Judge of the Family Court became vacant after Ibrahim Mahir, who held the post, was appointed as a High Court Judge.
Consequently, JSC decided today to appoint Nasheed as the Chief Judge of the Family Court.
Nasheed’s extensive career includes serving as a Magistrate in N. Manadhoo, Chief Magistrate of that court, and Chief Magistrate of the N. Judicial District.
He has also served as a Judge at the Criminal Court and the Family Court. With over 21 years of service in the judiciary, Nasheed was originally appointed as a Family Court Judge on March 24, 2016.
