A 22 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of selling child sexual abuse material using cryptocurrency, police said.

Adam Adlan Latheef, Thaa atoll Vilufushi, Moonimaa was arrested in the case.

He was taken into custody following a tip-off that he was using a wallet on Binance to trade illegal content.

Police said investigation traced transactions to his crypto account.

Forensic analysis of electronic devices seized from him uncovered a large quantity of images and videos, including material depicting the sexual abuse of children.

He was arrested on 5 April under a court order as part of an investigation by the Maldives Police Service’s Family and Child Protection unit.

Adlan was later produced in court and remanded in custody for 15 days. The remand period is due to expire on Tuesday.
