The Tsunami Monument Park (Tsunami Binaa Maizaan) has reopened to the public following renovation works.
The site, which had fallen into disrepair, was refurbished by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), with repairs beginning in February after parts of the structure were damaged.

Originally located in Henveiru, the monument was relocated to Thin Ruh Park in Maafannu during construction of the Sinamale' Bridge.
In recent years, the area had deteriorated significantly, with broken lighting, damaged paving and corroded fixtures.
MTCC completed renovation works on 2 April, with the park reopening to visitors today.
Upgrades include resurfacing and levelling of the ground, installation of fencing along the seawall, and new seating areas. Lighting has also been restored, allowing the park to be used in the evenings.

Rust-damaged metal structures have been repaired, giving the site a renewed polished look.
The Tsunami monument commemorates lives lost and unaccounted for in the December 26, 2024 tsunami.
