North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has requested parliament to summon Auditor General Hussain Niyaazi to question him on why an audit of Male' City Council has not been conducted in several years. 

In a letter addressed to Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, MP Ibrahim stated that he has learned an audit has not been conducted, nor an audit report released, of the Male' City Council over the past ten years.

While the law stipulates that all State institutions must be audited, it has come to his notice that the Auditor General has not attempted to audit the Male' City Council, he stated.

As this remains so, it is a responsibility of the parliament to investigate why no audit has been conducted, and to take appropriate action, MP Ibrahim wrote in the letter. 

MP Ibrahim also requested an expedited meeting of the parliament's Public Accounts Committee, to which the Auditor General and Male' City Council be summoned. 

Although an audit report of the Male' City Council has not been released over several years, the Auditor General's Office has publicized audit reports of several island councils and atoll councils. Relevant authorities have also taken subsequent action based on the findings of these reports.
