Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu has called on Majeediyya School to serve as a model for schools nationwide as it marks its 99th anniversary.

Speaking at a special assembly held at the school, Minister Shafeeu said the institution regarded as the starting point of formal education in the Maldives should set the standard as the sector adapts to a new technological era.

“Majeediyya should be a role model for all other schools. There are many lessons to be learned,” he said.

The Minister said the school must take the lead in improving the education system and introducing innovations for future generations.

He also highlighted ongoing preparations ahead of the school’s centenary, noting that construction of a commemorative building is already under way following the removal of the western-side parking area.

“Everyone will work together to complete and open the building by the 100th anniversary, and education should be designed to meet the demands of a new technological era,” he said.

Minister Shafeeu pointed to the Bingaa programme as a key initiative to strengthen the education system. The one-year programme aims to instill values such as compassion, respect for others, and confidence among students, alongside encouraging respect for teachers, parents and the wider community.

A new website, YouTube channel and a commemorative book on Majeediyya School were also launched during the ceremony.
