Secretary General of Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Muaz Haleem has resigned today, stating he is doing so to facilitate improving the party's administration. 

Muaz, who also serves as a State Minister at the Ministry of Defence, said in a social media post today that he is stepping back from his party administration duties to support President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's efforts to reshape the party's governance in line with public sentiment and to help it achieve better results. 

For these reasons, it is important that the post of Secretary General be filled by an individual who can dedicate more time to the role, he said. 

Muaz was appointed SG of the PNC on January 13, 2025, after Zeenaz Adnan's term expired.
