The Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Ahmed Shiyam, stated tonight that while the government received a "B report" in the Local Council Elections, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu desires an "A report," which is why changes were initiated immediately after the elections concluded.

Speaking at a gathering at the Male' party hub to celebrate the PNC's success in the council and Women’s Development Committee elections for Ha. Muraidhoo, Shiyam noted that many are questioning whether the PNC actually won the recent elections. He remarked that they received a "B report" in that election and stated that such a report is not acceptable.

Shiyam said that this is a government that seeks to achieve an "A report."

"This time we received a B report. Those listening should look into who else has received a B report in Local Council Elections while being in power. We do not accept a B report. We are people who want to achieve an A report."

Shiyam further stated that President Muizzu is also a president who wants an "A report," and therefore, as soon as the elections ended, he listened to the people's voices and began the work of bringing about the changes the people desire.

"President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu wants an A report. Therefore, as soon as the election concluded, he said that the people have spoken. He said he has listened. From that moment, he began the things the people mentioned. Isn't this the most beautiful scene to be seen in a democracy?"

Shiyam criticized the previous government, claiming that even when theft from the state occurred, they lacked the courage to dismiss ministers or take action. Instead, he argued, those individuals appeared to be people to whom the government was beholden.

"During the last administration, we saw that even when theft was committed from the state treasury, they were unable to dismiss a minister. They were beholden. While the drawer was being emptied, we saw the President and the government running the administration while being beholden to all the ministers. Isn't this how it happened?"

He noted that more than 70 percent of people turned out to vote in the last Local Council Election, which he said demonstrates trust in the system. Highlighting the positive aspects of the recent election, Shiyam expressed confidence in the Elections Commission. He also pointed out that despite having a super-majority in Parliament capable of dismissing Supreme Court judges, the PNC member for the Hithadhoo North constituency, Mohamed Sinan, lost his seat, which he cited as evidence of trust in the system.

"A seat of one of our most important members from one of the largest cities in the Maldives was lost with that judgment. What does this tell us? Trust in the system. In an era where people had lost trust in the state's entire system and the government's entire governing system because governments used to manipulate it, we are now seeing people's trust being gained through firm and good measures being taken," Shiyam said.

He concluded by stating that this government will move forward by listening to the people and will proceed in the manner the people desire.
