The family of the accident victim left in critical condition after the March 21 accident in Hithadhoo, Addu, has appealed for financial assistance from the public in the victim's treatment. 

In the accident, a car driving in the reclaimed area of Hithadhoo, Addu, overturned, leaving all four persons inside injured. The driver of the car, now identified as Nizan Najmy, of Kokaa-han'dhuvaruge, S. Hithadhoo, still remains in critical condition.

Nizan's family said that they had received assistance from the State in taking him abroad for further treatment. However, they are in need of additional funds to support members of the family who have to travel alongside him. 

Nizan's father, Hussain Najmy, told Mihaaru News today that his son has suffered serious brain injuries in the accident. 

Nizan was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in capital Male' the day after the accident. While he continues to receive treatment there, doctors have advised for him to be taken abroad for more intensive care at the earliest possible, Najmy said. 

He explained that Aasandha has confirmed that they provide coverage for treatment abroad. However, this does not include expenses of accommodation and food for the patient's parents.

Najmy said that the family lacks the finances to independently bear the costs of staying abroad with the patient, and so is appealing for assistance from the public. 

Due to Nizam's condition, he has to be accompanied by a nurse during the transfer abroad. The family is required to bear the costs of one day's accommodation and meals for the nurse as well. 

"The lungs have been severely affected. He has fractures in his neck, ribs, and shoulders. IGMH's negligence has also now left a huge sore on his head (where the neck support touches the head). They failed to address it even in 20 days. There is a huge sore there," Najmy explained. 

"As there has been no improvement even so long after the accident, the doctors have recommended that he be taken abroad."

The accident occurred when Nizan had been on the way to drop some friends off at the airport. There were three others in the car with Nizan, all of whom sustained various degrees of injuries.
