It has been decided that a post-mortem will be conducted on the man who died today while held in police custodial care.

Ahmed Nawshad, 41, of M. Reyalivaage, was already deceased when he was brought to IGMH this afternoon after being found collapsed in his cell.

Police stated tonight that since he passed away while in custody, they have decided to conduct a post-mortem of the body to determine the cause of death.

Information regarding the incident has now been shared with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC), Police said. Police also noted that the case is currently being investigated.
