An individual being held at the Male' Custodial Jail has died today. 

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Nawshad, 41, of M.Reyalivaage-aage, Male'. 

Police said that he had been found collapsed in his cell this evening, and had been taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). 

Doctors at IGMH pronounced him dead on arrival, Police said. 

Information regarding the death has been shared with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC), Police said. They further stated that they have initiated an investigation into the custodial death.
