The Minister of Infrastructure, Urban and Housing Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib stated that difficulties in importing boulder rocks are what is stalling many projects and that the government is working to solve the issue.

While answering an MP's question during today's Parliament session, the minister said that boulder rocks are typically imported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and that it has become difficult to import the rocks due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. He also said that the government is prioritizing the matter and is working to solve it.

"We are working to get the projects moving once more, even if it means we have to determine a principle where the boulder rocks can be imported from India. Work has been stalled at many islands due to a lack of the rocks," said Muththalib.

While a substantial amount of boulder rocks are being imported from India, the country has recently arranged a system where the rocks can be purchased at special prices.

According to a statement from the Indian High Commission early this month, the specified goods between both nations will be available at special prices for 2026 and 2027. The goods include eggs, onions, potatoes, lentils, rice, sugar, flour, boulder rocks and rock sand.

Because of the war that is being waged by the USA and Israel against Iran, transport within the Gulf region is experiencing an array of obstacles. This has caused fuel prices on the world market to spike, along with the prices of other goods.

As there are difficulties in importing goods from the Middle East, the government has said that they are working on alternative import methods.
