With the changes placed in effect today, the mandates of 10 ministries have changed.
Ten cabinet ministers abruptly resigned today. Following this, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has recomposed the cabinet, along with some changes to ministry portfolios.
Although 20 separate ministries were previously operated, the President has now merged a number of ministries, and reduced the total number to 15.
Changes brought to ministries
- The Education Ministry and Higher Education Ministry were merged, forming the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development with Dr Ismail Shafeeu as Minister.
- Health Ministry and Social and Family Development Ministry were merged, forming the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare with Geela Ali as Minister.
- Economic Development Ministry and Transport Ministry were merged, forming the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade with Mohamed Saeed as Minister
- Youth Ministry and Sports Ministry were merged, forming the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness with Abdulla Rafiu as Minister.
- The Fisheries Ministry and Animal Welfare Ministry are also set to be merged, but a Minister is yet to be appointed.
A Minister of Defence has also not been appointed as of yet.
The cabinet previously consisted of 20 ministers. With the 12 ministers who were sworn in tonight, and the Attorney General, currently there are a total of 13 ministers.
