Saahil Ali, charged in the brutal killing of a young woman in a Male' residence, has been convicted of two of five charges. For these, Saahil was given a three-year prison sentence by the Criminal Court today. 

Shiau Mohamed Saeed of Fuvahmulah City was killed in a Male' residence in August 2022. Investigators later determined that her body had been mutilated after death. The State has pressed five different charges against Saahil, of Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo.

The hearings in the case are being conducted behind closed doors. Both the trial and the charges have been kept confidential at the State's request.   

However, the Criminal Court stated today that Saahil has been convicted of two out of five charges, for which he has been given a prison sentence of 3 years, 1 month and 6 days. 

Verdicts for the remaining charges are yet to be delivered. 

The court said a hearing for the delivery of summary statements for the remaining three charges has been scheduled for later this month. 

The Criminal Court has previously said that the Attorney General's Office had decided against providing further legal representation on State expense to Saahil as he refused to cooperate with State-appointed lawyers.
