Ibrahim Nishan Ahmed has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The DG position at HPA became vacant after Maimoona Aboobakuru retired. The Civil Service Commission made an announcement in early February that interested candidates can apply for the position.
According to sources, some doctors from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) had applied for the DG position at HPA. However, Nishan, who has been the Deputy Director General of the HPA, is the one who has been appointed due to him scoring the highest.
Requirement in being appointed as the DG of HPA
- To have a PhD/Higher Professional Diploma in the relevant field and position and to have four years of experience in such a position, and to have worked for at least two years out of the four in management.
- To have a Masters/Advanced Professional Diploma in the relevant field and position and to have four years of experience in such a position, and to have worked for at least two years out of the eight in management.
Some of the responsibilities of the DG
- Assessing public health programs, setting guidelines and policies, and ensuring compliance from agencies.
- Leading prevention of imported communicable diseases and directing national control measures.
- Liaising with foreign organizations on efforts to promote public health safety, and to conduct collaborative programs with such organizations.
Nishan has a Masters degree in Public Health.
Along with a base salary of MVR 21,884, an allowance of MVR 12, 534 and an attendance allowance of MVR 339, a total salary of MVR 41,876 has been allocated for the position.
