STELCO has requested that care be exercised so that electricity cables do not get damaged when roads are excavated. Instances where electricity outages occur due to electricity cables being cut when roads are dug into for construction work have been on the rise.

Some towers in Hulhumale' Phase 2 experienced a power outage on Sunday evening, with the power being restored at midnight. Residents of the area experienced significant difficulties, with the cause of the power outage being a main cable having been damaged.

STELCO stated that the power outage was caused due to a main cable being damaged when construction work was being done in Phase 2.

And so, STELCO has requested care while conducting excavation work.

"It is important that companies and the general public are protected from the difficulties and losses that can be experienced from such situations. And so, we request all parties that involve themselves in such work exercise a great deal of care," said STELCO.
