For the first time, a female captain has been elected for Majeediyya School.

Since its establishment on April 19, 1927, Majeediyya had been operating as a school exclusively for boys; however, that policy was changed in 2011. Starting that year, Grade 1 was reintroduced to the school, ending its status as an all-boys institution and transforming Majeediyya School into a co-educational establishment where students of both genders study together.

Majeediyya School’s Principal, Ahmed Mujahid, told "Mihaaru" today that since co-education began in 2011, a female student has been elected as the school captain for the first time this year.

Aishath Eeshal Ibrahim was elected as the captain for this year at the school, which began teaching 99 years ago. She is Majeediyya's first female captain. Following an oath-taking ceremony held at the school yesterday, the student assumed the role of school captain.

The Principal stated that Eeshal was selected based on Grade 10 academic activities as well as being elected through a vote.

Mujahid said that every year since Majeediyya began teaching both genders, female students have applied for the position of school captain. However, the Principal noted that this is the first time a female student has been elected to the post.

While a female student has taken over the captaincy at Majeediyya School for the first time, Aminiya School, which previously taught as an all-girls school, began teaching boys in 2010.

The first male captain at that school was elected in 2020.
