The 23 year old patient who was receiving ICU care at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after their dengue infection became critical has passed away.

IGMH confirmed that Nabhan, who was on ventilator support due to dengue complications, has passed away today.

Nabhan was initially treated at Sh. Milandhoo health centre after presenting with fever last week, but as their condition worsened, they were transferred to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Hospital and later brought to IGMH yesterday.

While a young man has lost his life to dengue today, the number of dengue cases being reported across the country are on the rise.

According to HPA, 535 cases of dengue were reported last month, compared to 60 cases in the same period last year.

In February, 428 dengue cases were reported, while the same month last year had 76 cases.

HPA reiterated the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of diseases spread by mosquitos such as dengue.
