The recently reported MVR 4 million theft was from the residence of renowned businessman Ibrahim Ahmed, widely known as 'Maniku Seytu'. The businessman and his family had been in Saudi Arabia for Umrah pilgrimage at the time. 

Ahmed conducts wholesale and retail businesses under the name of 'Mansha' for various types of goods. 

The MVR 4 million was stolen from a safe at his residence, an apartment at Nalahiya Residence on Majeedhee Magu. The case is under investigation, with only MVR 50,000 of the lost funds recovered so far. 

Police have now arrested four individuals in relation to the theft reported on March 16. They are still searching for one additional suspect, who has evaded arrest so far. 

Ismail Asif, R. Maduvvari, arrested in relation to this case, is a relative of Ahmed, Mihaaru News reports. He is believed to have planned the theft in collusion with a group of others. While Ahmed and his family were in Umrah during the last third of Ramadan, Asif had been the only one staying at the home. 

A few weeks prior to the theft, Ahmed has arranged a job for Asif as well. 

Ahmed has been practicing business in the Maldives on a wide scale for over 40 years. His businesses range from souvenir shops to general goods stores in Male'. 

Asif, 36, was previously served a ten-year prison sentence in 2022 for stabbing a Ismail Hammad, Fehiali, R. Madduvvari. 

He was released before the prison term was completed, and was rearrested in relation to the March 16 theft.

Police said that the investigation is nearing completion now, and will soon be sent for prosecution.
