A 23 year old patient is receiving ICU care at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital after their dengue infection became critical.
The patient was initially treated at Sh. Milandhoo after presenting with fever, but as their condition worsened, they were transferred to HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Hospital and later brought to IGMH yesterday.
An IGMH Media Official confirmed that a young patient is being treated in the hospital's ICU for dengue, with the patient currently on ventilator support.
An official from the Milandhoo Health Centre said that between last November and January this year, 30 cases of dengue have been reported on the island. Ramadan alone saw 15 dengue cases.
In April, five cases have been reported so far, they said.
HPA also confirms that dengue cases are on the rise.
According to HPA, 535 cases of dengue were reported last month, compared to 60 cases in the same period last year.
In February, 428 dengue cases were reported, while the same month last year had 76 cases.
HPA reiterated the importance of taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of diseases such as dengue.
