STELCO has stated that the power outage in some areas of Hulhumalé Phase 2 was caused by damage to a main cable, and efforts to resolve the issue are still ongoing.
STELCO first announced at 3:21 PM today that work had begun to resolve power issues after electricity was cut off from several towers in Hulhumalé Phase 2. Following this, the company stated that the issue had been identified and power would be restored to all towers within approximately 45 minutes. However, it later noted that further issues had been identified, requiring more time to resolve.
STELCO recently clarified that the power cut in some towers occurred because one of the four main cables used to provide electricity to Hulhumalé Phase 2 had been damaged.
According to the company, it is believed the cable was damaged during excavation work.
STELCO further stated that due to the current state of the Phase 2 power grid and the load, there are difficulties in providing full electricity to the entirety of Phase 2 using the remaining three cables.
While technical teams are working to fix the problem, STELCO said that to restore power to all affected areas, they are working to distribute the load of the damaged cable among the remaining three cables.
At this moment, power is still out in several Hiyaa flats and some Vinares flats.
As the power outage has persisted for a long time, residents of the area are facing significant difficulties, and complaints have increased.
