Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital has revealed that the expatriate who suffered severe burn injuries in last week's fire in F. Feeali is now on ventilator support. 

Last Thursday, a fire broke out on a fuel boat moored at the Feeali harbour, which then spread to surrounding boats as well as a nearby iceplant and fuel shed. 

Several members of the public assisted firefighters and police in battling the blaze. Among them was 39-year old Bangladeshi expatriate Devola, who sustained serious burn injuries.

Devola was initially treated at the Feeali Health Centre, but was later transferred to the Faafu Atoll Hospital in Nilandhoo. Needing more extensive care due to the severity of his injuries, he was then transferred to IGMH in capital Male' City on the same day. 

An IGMH media official said that Devola was being treated in the hospital's ICU. His condition remains critical, and he is being kept on life support. 

Nilandhoo Hospital earlier revealed that Devola had suffered 60% TBSA burns. 

The fire on the fuel boat broke out at around 9:15am last Thursday. It took responders nearly three hours to control the fire, by which time it had destroyed three boats and the island's ice plant. Feeali Council estimates the fire caused losses worth MVR 20 million.
