A recount of a Dh. Meedhoo council ballot box, where two candidates had previously tied, has resulted in the MDA candidate securing the seat. 

Three candidates contested for the Meedhoo Council President seat: ruling PNC candidate Suha Ibrahim, MDA candidate Mohamed Shahid, and independent candidate Ibrahim Naseem. 

According to provisional results then on the Elections Commission website, Suha received 393 votes, and Shahid received 392. The independent candidate received 100 votes. 

The results changed after it was confirmed that a voter who was not eligible to vote in Fonadhoo Ballot Box No. 3 had cast a ballot. As a result, one of Suha's votes was invalidated. 

This then resulted in the two leading candidates having an equal number of votes. 

Following this, the Fonadhoo box was recounted, and the MDA candidate won the Meedhoo Council President seat with the difference of just one vote. 

The updated provisional results shown on the Elections Commission website indicates that Shahid received 392 votes, and Suha received 391.

It has been reported that these results have led to heated disputes amongst the parties.
