A fire broke out this morning on a fuel boat moored at the F. Feeali harbour. The fire has further intensified and continues to spread even as fire fighters, police and the public attempt to control it. 

A Feeali resident said that despite water being sprayed in hopes of controlling the fire, it has been in vain, with the fire still raging on and spreading. 

The fire has spread to four boats and affected the island's ice plant as well.

Police have said that the fire has now also spread to a fuel shed in the vicinity, damaging fuel dispensers and parts of the fuel shed. 

Residents report that there is heavy fumes across the entire island. 

Feeali School has also closed down for the day, sending students home after interval.

A Bangladeshi crew member of the fuel boat suffered serious burn injuries, and is now under treatment at the island's health centre. 

A Police media official stated that they received reports of the incident this morning, at 9:15am.   

MNDF said that firemen from F. Nilandhoo Fire Station are on the scene now working to control the fire.
