A fire broke out a short while ago on a fuel boat moored at the F. Feeali harbour. The fire has further intensified and spread to three more boats. 

A Bangladeshi crew member of the fuel boat suffered serious burn injuries, and is now under treatment at the island's health centre. 

A Police media official stated that they received reports of the incident this morning, at 9:15am.   

They stated that police are working with relevant institutions to control and put out the fire. 

A Feeali resident said that the fire on the fuel boat has spread to a grouper fishing vessel and a boat that transfers sand, both of which were docked nearby. The island's ice plant is also now aflame, they said. 

"The fuel boat caught fire after half the fuel it was carrying was unloaded. The fire broke out as they attempted to start the pump," another man said, citing a person who had been on the boat at the start of the incident. 

Videos circulating on social media show huge flames engulfing the vessel, burning it beyond use. 

MNDF said that firemen from F. Nilandhoo Fire Station are on the scene now working to control the fire.
