Maldives has welcomed the temporary ceasefire between the United States of America (USA) and Iran in the midst of their war.

According to the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was released last night, they welcome the temporary ceasefire and hope it paves the way in opening up a dialogue and a more permanent solution regarding the differences between them.

The statement reads that Maldives is also appreciative of the diplomatic efforts on the side of Pakistan and other countries in the facilitation of the ceasefire.

"The Government of the Republic of Maldives affirms its support for all efforts by the international community aimed to restore peace and stability in the region. The Maldives underscores the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring freedom of navigation to facilitate global trade," as was written in the statement.

After more than a month of ongoing attacks from the USA and Israel to Iran and vice versa, Iran stated that an agreement has been reached with the USA to hold discussions in Pakistan on 10th April.

President of the United States Donald Trump has said that he had spoken to the leaders of Pakistan and that last night, Pakistan had requested the "destructive forces" that were to be sent to Iran be halted.

"An agreement for a two-week ceasefire has been reached, in regards to the complete, immediate and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," stated Trump on his Truth Social platform.

Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi has assured that one-fifth of the world's oil will be safely transported through the strait for two weeks. The strait was closed as retaliation for the war that began on 28th February. 

Trump has warned that populated areas, power generating stations and bridges in Iran will be destroyed. This is a war crime under international law.

Pakistan, a nation that has a close relationship with the USA and is a neighbor to Iran, has acted as a mediator during the war.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif stated that efforts to reach a peaceful solution are moving at a fast pace.

Due to the war, even though the price of oil has greatly risen on the world market, the news of peace has shown the beginning of an immediate decrease in that price.
