The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today that it has decided to bring Dr. Salma Rasheed, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva, back to the Maldives for "certain tasks" of the Ministry.

However, the official who spoke from the Ministry did not disclose what those tasks are.

The move to bring the Permanent Representative in Geneva back to the Maldives for Ministry work comes at a time when rumors have been circulating that she was dismissed from her post and subsequently reinstated yesterday.

However, the Foreign Ministry official stated that Salma has not been dismissed and that the government has not officially made any such statement.

"Salma still remains in the post of the Permanent Representative of the Maldives in Geneva," the official said.

The issue surrounding Salma gained attention following the leak of an audio recording in which her sister, Asma Rasheed, the Member of Parliament for the Maafannu Central constituency, reportedly claimed that the local council elections held last Saturday could not have been won without her.

According to the Foreign Ministry, there is no connection between bringing Salma to the Maldives at this time and Asma’s audio.

Asma’s son, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), was dismissed yesterday from his post as the Maldivian Ambassador to the UAE.

However, Asma’s daughter, Aminath Hussain Shareef, who serves as a State Minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, has not been dismissed from her position.
