The Supreme Court has scheduled the verdict for next Sunday in the case seeking to declare that the seat of Mohamed Sinan, the Member of Parliament for the Hithadhoo North constituency, has been lost, nine months after the hearings for the case were concluded.

A person named Ghalib Saleem submitted the case to the Supreme Court to declare that the seat of Sinan, a member of the ruling party PNC, has been lost, alleging that he failed to pay MVR 2.5 million as ordered by a judgment regarding a loan taken from Islamic Bank involving Sinan and another individual.

After concluding the hearings for the case in July last year, the Supreme Court has scheduled the delivery of the verdict for next Sunday afternoon.

The case is being presided over by a bench consisting of Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed, Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain, Justice Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Justice Hussain Shaheed, and Justice Mohamed Saleem. Justice Shujoon is presiding over the bench.

According to the Constitution, if a person has a proven debt and fails to pay it in accordance with the judgment, they shall lose their seat as a member.
