The new street signs installed under the Male' City Council's street-sign renewal project have drawn widespread criticism due to spelling mistakes in both the Dhivehi and English texts. 

A photo circulating on social media shows the signs for Lonuziyaaraiy Magu and Maafaiythakurufaanu Magu, both of which have mistakes. 

"When doing things like this, experts should be consulted, or it should be sent to relevant institutions for review to see if the names have been written correctly. Especially when it's something that carries costs," history enthusiast Najah Didi opined on Facebook. 

Male' Mayor Adam Azim said that the work had been contracted out to a company, who had been responsible for installing the signs for these two streets as well. 

Azim did not disclose details of the contractor. 

He stated that the city council had provided a list of street names, assuring that the list had been error-free. 

"However, it has now come to the attention of the council, and we are looking into it," Azim said. 

The Dhivehi Language Academy has also brought this to the Mayor's attention, according to reports.
