North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has raised concerns about the prolonged delays in receiving responses from cabinet ministers for questions posed through parliament.
In a letter addressed to Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, MP Ibrahim said that responses are yet to be received for questions submitted by MDP MPs between December 4, 2024 and January 13, 2026.
A list of 62 questions posed by MDP MPs was attached with the letter.
Ibrahim said that responses have not been received for questions posed to:
- Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon
- Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib
- Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed
- Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer
- Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidhar Ahmed
- Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim
- Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim
- Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed
- Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar
- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel
- Minister of Social and Family Development, Aishath Shiham
In the letter, MP Ibrahim cited Article 3(a) of Addressing of Questions to Cabinet Ministers Act, which states that if a member of parliament wishes to question a cabinet minister, that member should do so after giving a period of 14 days notice to question in writing to the minister, and the question must be addressed to the minister through the Parliament Speaker in the parliament sitting.
Ibrahim stated that disregarding what is explicitly outlined in law is, in his view, equivalent to violating it. He appealed to the Speaker to take steps to prevent this.
