Ahmed Mauroof has been dismissed from the post of Legal Director at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

A letter sent to Mauroof, signed by MDP's Interim Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, notified him of his dismissal effective today. 

While Ghafoor thanked Mauroof for his services to the party, he did not specify a reason for the dismissal. 

Mauroof worked in the President's Office Legal Department during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. 

His dismissal comes at a time when there is heavy internal conflict in the party due to former President Mohamed Nasheed not being granted an opportunity to speak at the Local Council Election victory rally held last night. 

Several MDP activists posted on social media criticizing the party leadership for their decision to exclude Nasheed. Mauroof, too, shared a post. 

In his post, Mauroof said that pride and ego lead to defeat, urging people to cultivate calmness and gratitude to inspire hope and guidance. 

It is not clear whether this post directly led to Mauroof's dismissal. 

The initial agenda for last night's event included a speech from Nasheed. The agenda had later been changed just ahead of the event, excluding Nasheed's address and replacing it with a speech from a mayor. Owing to this, Nasheed did not attend the event, with several of his supporters also refusing to join.  

However, Ghafoor has said that the party had been working on accommodating Nasheed's speech at last night's gathering when rumours to the contrary were spread, creating discord. 

Nasheed himself posted on his unofficial X account last night, "I have become very disheartened on this joyful day".
