Mohamed Rishwan has resigned from the post of Managing Director at Maldives Ports Limited.

Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) just announced that Rishwan, who was appointed on February 3, 2025, has submitted his resignation, which the board has accepted.

It has been reported that Rishwan resigned on instruction from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Rishwan is the second MD to have served at MPL since the start of this administration. He was appointed after former MD Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim was dismissed.

Following the poor results received by the government in last Saturday's Local Council elections, Women's Development Committee and the referendum to see the public's view on holding Presidential and Parliamentary elections on the same day, the government has dismissed the MDs of various state owned enterprises today.

Other MDs dismissed today include Fenaka Corporation's Mohamed Najah and Agro National Corporation's (Agronet) Hussain Didi.

The government has also removed Maldivian Ambassador to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) and Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Office in Geneva Dr Salma Rasheed from their posts today.

Shareef is the son of ruling People's National Congress (PNC)'s MP for Central Maafannu Asma Rasheed. Dr Salma is Asma's younger sister.

The government has not officially announced a reason for the dismissals. However, an audio recording of a phone call where Asma tells a man to not vote for PNC was recently leaked on social media.
