Customs has seized a vast supply of vape cartridges that were being smuggled into Maldives by sea.

Customs stated that they seized 1,940 vape cartridges that were in the process of being smuggled into Maldives yesterday.

Customs is currently investigating the matter. Equipment used to vape and similar products carry a fine of MVR 50,000 if an attempt to smuggle them is made, with each imported e-cigarette or vape carrying a fine of MVR 10,000.

A company by the name of Serenity Blue has been fined MVR 108,000,000 at the aforementioned rate for attempting to smuggle the largest vape shipment seen yet. With the most recent fine, the total fine for vapes will rise to MVR 659,010,000.

The second largest fine for attempting to smuggle vapes included 7,210 of the devices, with the individual who made the attempt being fined MVR 72.1 million.

According to the latest information that was shared by Customs, 169 people have been fined up until 31st October 2025. Customs said that the fines within that time frame amounted to MVR 551,010,000.

The use, sale and business surrounding vapes has been banned in Maldives, with it being among the various steps taken by the government to control smoking. Those who are below the age of 21 are not allowed to buy or sell tobacco products in Maldives.
