In Saturday's Local Council Elections, opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates have won all the seats in the Addu City Council.
In the election, Addu City Mayor, councilors and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members for the four islands of the city were elected. These are:
- Hithadhoo: 6 seats
- Maradhoo: 1 seat
- MaradhooFeydhoo: 1 seat
- Feydhoo: 2 seats
As per preliminary results, all 11 seats were won by MDP.
Hithadhoo Moolukede constituency was the most competitive. Here, the incumbent PNC councilor Ahmed Saeed contested against MDP candidate Ahmed Nazeer. Nazeer won the seat with a narrow margin.
MDP also won most of the WDC seats in the city.
The main opposition MDP has also secured majority in all the other cities as well.
