The People's National Congress (PNC) has taken the lead for one seat in Fuvahmulah City Council with a slight difference in the election results.

As per the provisional results from last Saturday's Local Council Election, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates were elected for Mayor of Fuvahmulah and for seven out of eight constituencies in the city.

The only seat MDP lost was Dhadimagu constituency, a seat the party did not run for. The first provisional results showed that the Dhadimagu constituency seat was won by an independent candidate.

However, as of now, the count from the ballot boxes placed in other islands shows PNC candidate and current Dhadimagu councilor Aishath Abdul Gadhir being in the lead with just two votes.

Nevertheless, as there are more ballot boxes for the constituency that still need to be counted, changes are to be expected.

MDP won seven out of the nine seats in the Women's Development Committee (WDC), with PNC and an independent candidate having won a seat each.

The current Fuvahmulah council has two PNC members on it.
