The majority of the ADh. Maamigili Council has been lost by Jumhooree Party (JP) for the first time.
Until now, the majority of Maamigili Council, the home island of Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, had always been maintained by Jumhooree Party.
However, in the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections held yesterday, Jumhooree Party secured only the Council President’s seat and one member seat out of the five available on the Maamigili Council, winning by a narrow margin.
Jumhooree Party obtained the Council President’s seat by a small difference while competing against the PNC candidate. Of the remaining three seats, the PNC successfully secured two, while one seat went to the MDP.
Additionally, out of the five seats on the Women’s Development Committee, PNC secured three seats, including the position of Committee President.
