Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate and five-year Council President of K. Maafushi Council Hassan Salah has lost this year's election. 

The seats for Maafushi were split evenly between various parties as per yesterday's Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections. Maafushi Council President Salah was not re-elected in this election, after having been the Council President since his election five years ago in 2021.

Salah received 487 votes in the election, with the Council President seat being won by the former Vice President of the council and People's National Congress (PNC) candidate Ali Shamoon, with 666 votes.

Provisional results show that one of the three seats from Maafushi Council was won by PNC. The seat specifically for female candidates was won by MDP's Mariyam Shifana. Independent candidate Hussain Amil won council membership.

Along with that, two of the four seats for the Women's Development Committee were won by PNC, one was won by MDP and the final one was won by an independent candidate.

Salah brought significant changes to Maafushi during his five years as Council President. These include land reclamation as a solution for housing issues in Maafushi and giving away plots as well.

MTCC had reclaimed land for Maafushi, with the Vahmaafushi sandbank next to Maafushi being turned into a picnic island.
