Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates emerged the winners of the Women's Development Committee (WDC) President seats in all five cities.
In the WDC elections held nation-wide yesterday, MDP candidates won the WDC President seats in the cities of Male', Kulhudhuffushi, Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah and Addu, as per preliminary results.
The Male' WDC Presidents seat, which proved highly competitive, had MDP candidate Aishath Reesha contesting against ruling People's National Congress (PNC) candidate Aishath Alaika.

In addition to the WDC President seats in cities, MDP also secured all the mayoral seats across the five cities.
The incumbent MDP Mayors of all five cities were re-elected in yesterday's Local Council Elections.
Except for Thinadhoo, MDP won all the four other seats with a large margin.
Competition in Thinadhoo City was tight, with MDP's incumbent mayor Saudh Ali and PNC candidate Mohamed Ajeeb posting closely matched results, with a difference of only about 50 votes.
In addition to the mayoral seats, MDP has also secured majority wins in the City Councils.
As per preliminary results so far, MDP has won the Mayor seat in all five cities.
