President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today appointed the third Commissioner of Police of this administration. 

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed (Two Four) was presented his letter of appointment as Commissioner of Police in a ceremony held at the President's Office this morning. 

The position of Commissioner became vacant following the sudden decision of former CP Ismail Naveen to retire last month. 

In the interim, the post has been filled by Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikry who was made Acting Commissioner of Police. 

The initial announcement last month seeking applications for the post of Commissioner did not receive any response. A second announcement then saw applications from Farhad Fikry, Ahmed Mohamed, and Assistant Commissioner Abdulla Shareef. 

After interviewing all three candidates, the Police Board advised Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan to appoint Ahmed Mohamed. 

Ahmed Mohamed has filled senior positions in the police service in operational and investigative fields. In addition to this, he has completed IPS Probationers Basic Training Course at the Police Academy in India, as well as other key trainings for senior officers. 

Ahmed Mohamed has an illustrious three decade career at Maldives Police Service. He also holds a Masters in Shariah. 

The first Commissioner of Police under this administration was Ali Shujau. He retired last year, leading to the appointment of Naveen.
