Elections Commission just announced that voter turnout for today's Local Council Elections, Women's Development Committee Elections, and Public Referendum on holding presidential and parliamentary elections on the same day was at 73 percent.
This marks the highest voter turnout yet in a Local Council Election.
According to the Elections Commission, a total of 214,898 persons voted in yesterday's three elections.
The number of eligible voters stood at 253,714.
This election saw a 6 percent increase in voter turnout compared to the 2021 Local Council Elections. In 2021, 183,000 people voted in the election, coming to 67 percent of eligible voters.

- 2011: 70 percent
The most recent Parliamentary Elections, held in 2024, also had a voter turnout of 73 percent. The second round of the Presidential Elections in 2023 saw a voter turnout of 87.3 percent.
In yesterday's Local Council Elections, opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) won majority seats in all city councils, including the mayoral seat. MDP also secured the majority in WDCs in cities.
The Public Referendum on holding the two main elections on the same day saw the majority voting against the move, as per preliminary results.
