Former President and opposition MDP Advisor Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the government to promptly revise its policies in line with public sentiment following the latest election results.

Solih, said the outcome reflected public dissatisfaction with the government’s direction, including its stance on holding multiple elections on the same day.

In a social media post, he congratulated all winning candidates and thanked voters who supported MDP contenders. He said the results sent a clear message that the public wants a change in policy direction.

“What the government should do without delay is to listen to the voice of the people and change policies according to the wishes of the people,” he said.

MDP secured mayoral seats in all cities and won a majority of city councils.

Following the results, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said he fully accepted the elections results.

“I assure the beloved Maldivian citizens that, with God’s grace, I will continue working to address and correct the issues within the government, in line with the sentiments of the people,” he wrote.
