A 63-year-old man has died after attempting to rescue two children who were swept away by the currents while swimming in Vaavu Fulidhoo.
Police said the man's health deteriorated while being treated at the Fulidhoo Health Centre following the rescue attempt.
According to a person speaking from the island, the man had travelled to Fulidhoo with his family for the weekend. Two girls, aged between 13 and 15, were caught in the current but survived the incident.
The incident was reported to authorities at around 3:10pm, and police are continuing their investigation.
