The Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has begun offering key cardiovascular treatments.
CEO of Male' City Group of Hospitals Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem stated that AEH and the National Cardiac Centre conducted visits from Tuesday to Thursday.
The CEO said that the visits were a proud accomplishment in the history of the southern health sector of Maldives, especially in cardiovascular treatment.
Efforts during the visits:
- The first successful Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI); a rapid treatment for heart attacks has been carried out outside Male', at a newly established facility in Addu.
- The introduction of Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) and permanent pacemaker services, required for heart issues.
- 11 total angiograms and six angioplasties were conducted, with life-saving treatments having been conducted as well.
Haleem said that these efforts were launched under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's strong policies in providing quality healthcare as close as possible to citizens and in decentralizing healthcare.
Regarding the permanent surgeries at AEH, the hospital stated that doctors who specialize in such operations will make the trip from Male' to AEH once such cases present themselves.
The hospital also said that if it is an operation that cannot be carried out at AEH, the patient will be transported to Male' and that AEH's doctors are currently being trained for such operations.
