The Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu stated today that even though significant damages were caused to the GA. Atoll Education Centre by a blaze last night, arrangements will be made where its students will be able to continue their education.

An air conditioning unit in the school's primary staff room caught fire last night at 12:30am. The school teaches around 750 students. The fire spread from the staff room to the adjacent printing room and one of the classrooms. While the fire was put out at around 2:00am, the fire had already burned the three rooms.

According to a Facebook post, the minister said the fire that destroyed one of the school’s buildings is “a cause for great sadness” and represents “a major loss.”

Minister Shafeeu stated that arrangements will be made to procure equipment for the printing room, computers for the teachers and furniture for the school before teaching resumes.

He also gave his assurance that arrangements will be made for the school so that teaching would not be interrupted.
