Mushrif Ali, the People's National Congress (PNC) candidate contesting for the Mayor of Addu, has stated that the Addu City Council must be a respected institution free from political influence.
At this juncture, where the excitement for the election to choose the Mayor of Addu has intensified, one of the biggest concerns arising among voters is the question of whether the council can be operated as a place free from political influence.
Mushrif, who is contesting on the ticket of the ruling PNC, responded directly to this, emphasizing that the Addu City Council must be a strong institution operated according to legal standards instead of becoming a political playground.
"The council is a place belonging to the people of Addu. It must be a place that is respected as an institution," Mushrif said.
"Council decisions will be made without any political influence, based on laws, state financial regulations, and transparent principles."

This issue constitutes a significant part of the philosophy of this election.
While the current Mayor, MDP's Ali Nizar, faces targeted criticism regarding the administrative field, differences of opinion have arisen among some people regarding the election of a candidate who has the support of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government.
However, those backing Mushrif describe him in a completely different way. People who have worked with him say that Mushrif is an individual of integrity who prioritizes ethical standards and organized administrative systems over political ideology.
"People might initially look at the party he belongs to, but those who know Mushrif will not believe that he is someone with any connection to corruption," said a resident of Addu.
As the voting for the local council elections takes place this coming Saturday, this election is now transforming into more than just a competition between political parties; it is becoming an important test of whether the council can be made into a place operated with integrity and whether the prestige of the institution can be maintained.
Many view Mushrif’s perspective as an important assurance given to the citizens for the future of Addu.
