MACL has made preparations to reclaim two kilometers of the highway that connects Male' and Hulhumale' in order to build a Racing Track.

Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef told Mihaaru News today that they have begun mobilizing the equipment needed to reclaim the required area. He stated that the reclamation will begin very soon and that around two kilometers of land will be reclaimed.

Shareef did not mention when the project will be completed.

The Male'-Hulhumale' Highway that is connected to the Sinamale' Bridge is four kilometers long.

The Racing Track will begin at the intersection where Hulhule' and Sinamale' Bridge connects and will be built northward for two kilometers.

MACL's subsidiary company that is in-charge of reclaiming land will be spearheading the land reclamation. The excavators and trucks that are needed for the project have been transported to the project area.

The project to lay a Racing Track next to the highway was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during December 2025's Youth Coffee With President event.

The Espresso with Raees program that was held where the President met with the youth last Saturday saw President Muizzu state that the work to reclaim the land for the Racing Track will begin the coming week.

According to the President, the decision to build a Racing Track beyond the highway was made due to safety concerns, as it would not be the safest to build the track in a populated area. He also said that the length of the track needed for racing can only be achieved outside the highway.

Along with the Racing Track, a project to build a surfing stadium in the Male' Raalhugandu area has also been awarded to a company.

President Muizzu also announced that plots have been granted to the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation for the construction of an arcade game center and a bowling arena, both of which are for the youth.
