Fuvahmulah City Council introduced the first council mobile application yesterday, by the name of "afunCity".
Fuvahmulah City Council's website states that the application was created to make it easier to provide basic services, increase public participation and increase transparency. The city council also said that it is a central digital system that was designed for the public to easily view council services and information related to the city.
The city council said that the application is now available on iOS and Android platforms.
The city council went on to say that the application is part of their work to have many of the services that the public wants and city management under one roof, and to increase ease and speed of service.
- One of the most important parts of the application is an interactive chart that includes more than 3,700 locations. This includes houses, businesses, mosques and places that offer basic services. The system was designed with the latest technology to allow for instant location of places, to show roads and directions, and to make it easier for people who use maps.
- The application is linked to eFaas, the nation's digital identity system. Due to this, it will ensure that information is protected, easy access to services and access to some services for guest users without having to login.
- The application includes a system that shows real-time information on marine vessels that are sailing between Fuvahmulah and Male'. This will allow users to see the area the vessel is in and the direction they are sailing in real-time.
- Prayer times, a timetable for Friday prayers, information on mosques and mosques closest to the user are also available.
- Users can check the quality of air via IQAir in real-time.
- Issues regarding basic services can be flagged directly to the council via the application. Users can check how far along their inquiry is within the system.
- Citizens will be able to express their opinions, hold discussions and participate in voting on various matters via the afunAdo module.
- The application is linked to oneGov, making it easier for users to request services from the government and to check progress regarding their query.
- The application will include announcements, council decisions, financial reports and audit reports.
- The application will include news regarding Fuvahmulah, information on activities, employment opportunities and live feeds from the cameras that have been set up across various parts of the island.
According to the Fuvahmulah City Council, the introduction of afunCity is proof of the council's efforts in strengthening the operation of the city and increasing public participation with the help of digital innovation. The council also said that bringing important services and information onto one easy-to-use platform is an example in the development of a "smart city".
"This effort is also in line with digitalization and governing a city in a sustainable manner, along with the purposes that have been outlined at a national level," as was said by the city council.
