MTCC awarded contract to build student accommodation in Dhidhdhoo

The accommodation block will include 32 modern rooms with attached bathrooms, along with facilities such as a kitchen, dining area, laundry, gym and recreational spaces.

Ministry of Higher Education Maldives has signed an agreement with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to construct a dhanaal (student accommodation) in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo.

The project forms part of the government’s policy to expand access to higher education and training opportunities across the country.

Permanent Secretary Aishath Hikma signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while MTCC Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf signed for the company. The signing ceremony was attended by Higher Education Minister Ali Haidar Ahmed.

Speaking at the event, the minister said the project had faced delays due to various reasons, but emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring access to education and training for all students in the Maldives.

The accommodation block will include 32 modern rooms with attached bathrooms, along with facilities such as a kitchen, dining area, laundry, gym and recreational spaces.

Dhidhdhoo is also earmarked for the development of a junior college, where vocational training will be offered in fields including hospitality, automotive, welding and engineering.
