Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that driving heavy vehicles on Male' area streets will be banned on the upcoming voting day.
The Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections are scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 4. The referendum on holding the presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously will also be held alongside this.
In an announcement issued today, the Transport Ministry said that some categories of vehicles are banned on Male' streets on the voting day, to assist with maintaining peace and security on Male' streets, and to reduce traffic congestion.
Operation of vehicles in categories C0, C2, D, E and V on Male' area streets are prohibited from 6am to 11pm on April 4, according to the announcement.
The ministry stated that driving these categories of vehicles during the announced times is banned under the Land Transport Act, and warned that legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
Vehicles used by security forces will be exempt from this, they stated.
