Nafiu, arrested for intoxication in the presence of minors, released citing health condition

TV presenter Nafiu Rasheed, one of four people arrested on October 6, 2025, for being intoxicated in the presence of minors, has been released on medical grounds. 

Nafiu, who has worked at both State media PSM and VTV, was reportedly released during the recent Eid holidays. 

PG Office media official, Public Prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu told Mihaaru News that Nafiu's lawyers had requested the court to reconsider his incarceration, citing a serious medical condition. Shafeeu did not disclose further details. 

The court had decided to release Nafiu based on the health issues, Shafeeu said. 

The PG Office did not comment on appealing Nafiu's release or on the remand of the other three arrestees in the case. 

Others arrested in relation to the case are Ali Ashraf, 35, of M. Ethuma, Ibrahim Shinan Ahmed, 33, of H. Finikuri, and Luhan Saeed, 41, of Paris, GDh. Vaadhoo. 

The four were arrested in an apartment in Henveiru ward of Male'. 

Authorities also found a packet containing a substance suspected to be drugs. Urine tests of the four also came back positive for drug use. 

Minors affected in the case include two 17 year old girls, and two boys, aged 16 and 17.
