He also said that 98 percent of the students who took part in the exams received scores that made them eligible for signing up to universities.

The Department of Public Examinations (DPE) opened up the opportunity for students to privately sit for the A Levels exam in May/June 2026. With the changes that were brought in 2020, most of the students who wanted to take the May/June tests privately had to travel to Sri Lanka.

The DPE made the decision on 2nd March 2026 to hold the examination in Maldives.
This decision was made due to heightened travel expenses to Sri Lanka, and with the petition that was submitted to the Ministry of Education by students outlining the fact that not every student could afford the trip and the worries students held due to them losing the opportunity to obtain the scholarship even though they make it into the A Level Top Ten list.
